Projects in the Mining Industry Considered

President Shavkat Mirziyoyev familiarized with the presentation of projects for the expansion of coal and uranium mining.

With the growth of the economy and population in our country, the need for energy is increasing. In order to meet this demand, along with all energy resources, the coal production is also expanding. For the last five years the production of this raw material increased from 4 million tons to 5 million 300 thousand tons per year.

According to calculations, the reserves of coal in our country are about 2 billion tons. The President has set a task to effectively use this potential and consistently increase the production levels.

During the presentation the responsible officials reported on the ongoing work in this direction.

In particular, the JSC Shargunkumir modernization project will be completed this year. This allows to extract up to 900 thousand tons more of high-quality coal in the country.

The President pointed out that the production of high-quality coal could be further expanded at the expense of the development of Shargun and Baysun deposits. The importance of attracting investors to the development of deposits and implementation of new projects was emphasized.

An important branch of the mining industry in our country is the extraction of uranium. On July 14, 2022 a resolution of the President was adopted to increase the production and processing of uranium at a state enterprise «Navoiyuran». In particular, measures were identified to double its production up to 7.1 thousand tons by 2030.

A particular attention was paid to the implementation of these measures at the meeting.

Information about the projects being realized jointly with the French company «Orano Mining» was presented. The President gave instructions to accelerate cooperation projects to improve the efficiency of uranium mining and processing, exploration of new uranium deposits as part of this cooperation.
