President Shavkat Mirziyoyev visited Bekabad city of Tashkent region on August 29 and got acquainted with the activities of the JSC “Uzbek Metallurgical Plant”.

The head of state solemnly put into operation a new ferroalloy plant with a project cost of $ 60 million equipped with modern energy-saving technologies and advanced equipment.

The new workshop was built in conjunction with the South Korean company “Posco Daewoo” and is capable of producing 25,000 tons of ferrosilicon and Ferro silicon manganese a year. This will not only fully cover the demand of the metallurgical industry, but also export an average of 8,000 tons of ferroalloys a year and provide an inflow of currency of $ 12 million and reduce imports. More than 300 young men and women will receive permanent work here.
The President laid the foundation stone of the foundry and rolling complex.
The total cost of the project is 452 million US dollars; more than 400 new jobs will be created. With the full-scale project, in 2020, it will be possible to produce an additional one million tons of steel sheets 2-12 millimeters thick per year.
As a result, imports of steel sheets will decrease, which will save $ 350 million a year. At the same time, the annual demand for 500 thousand tons of hot-rolled sheets, which are the main raw materials of the currently under construction Tashkent Metallurgical Plant, will be fully provided. The Italian company "Danieli" will be building the casting and rolling complex.
